The US Department of Education recognizes 6 distinct educational regions, each of which is overseen by a different accrediting body. The Southern Region covers the 11 southern states of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida.
